August 17, 2015 Another Tourney in the books. We left Montauk on Thursday and ferry hopped onto Shelter Island, off Shelter Island, onto the Orient Point Ferry, across the sound and then to New London Connecticut for the drive up to Salem Bay Massachusetts. Set up camp and checked in with our fellow KFA members. I pre game fished on Friday and caught 2 stripers on a Fishaholic tube without a worm and then a third on bass worm rig with a spinner. Thanks to Richie for letting me try out some gear. My best was a 25″ bass. Not huge by any means but better then nothing for day 1. Friday night we had the Captains meeting and then went out for a few hours in wind against tide conditions before calling it a day. Sat Am early start to another hot day and Pennslyvania Dave and Bob K and I treked out towards the Ocean islands which were a blast to fish. Rocky structure. Foam. Blue Water, etc. All seemingly a bass hangout except for the fact that we didnt find them there. Locals told us the bass were deep up the river or off Ocean beaches. Great trek and explored some terrain we havent explored before. Spotted a few shoreline Turkeys which was kinda cool to see while kayaking. Dave did manage a 25″ after throwing a surface plug towards the shoreline but that was it after that. Back in at noon for the NEKF pizza party and then back out on the water with Jenny and Catherine. Catherine, fishing in the youth division, caught a 20″ bass on a tube and worm in her own Kayak and took second place for the second time. Way to go on a catch and release and winning a nice trophy. After the catch and photo, it started to rain so we high tailed it in and called it a day. Sat night had an awesome lobster and crab dinner with KFA. Thanks to all involved in that and especially Darren who procurred the local seafood and manned the steam pots, etc. Great job. Sunday Am woke at 4am and started fishing at 530am with Dave, Jenny and Catherine and later Bob. Dave managed 3 bass on our way to the Beverly bridges but for the most part, the bite wasnt great in part due to the extreme heat and bright sun. Nonetheless, great time, camping, seeing lots of friends, awesome raffle prizes and charities. Congrats to all the winners and the winners from KFA and our NY region, (Elias, Catherine, Jake, Gene, etc).
